The Bay Area Transformative Justice Collective holds a free, 6 session Transformative Justice (TJ) Study every other year, usually during late spring to early summer. This is one of our core program offerings.

The TJ Study is an extended introduction to transformative justice and community accountability (CA). It is an opportunity to grow and deepen understanding of TJ/CA. Participants learn about core concepts, values and practices of TJ/CA, while also building ability to implement them in everyday life. We use a combination of readings, media (audio recordings, videos, etc.), interactive activities, large and small group discussions and traditional teaching throughout the TJ Study. Since the BATJC focuses specifically on child sexual abuse (CSA), we spend some of our time together learning about CSA; however, the TJ Study is more so a general introduction to TJ/CA responses for many different forms of violence and harm.

We believe that the TJ Study is an integral part of spreading and growing the work of transformative justice. During the TJ Study we share knowledge and build relationships, ultimately creating the conditions for successful responses to violence in all our communities.

Applications for the 2020 TJ Study are now closed. We anticipate hosting another one in 2022. In the meantime, we highly encourage you to join us at an upcoming Lab or Monthly Community Potluck. Join our listserv to learn about all upcoming events.
